1968 Matchbox Mercury Commuter Station-Wagon Car 55 / 73 Base MIB 2 Dogs



Casting 73C, the Mercury Commuter, is a station wagon, commonly found in green with a pale interior.

This model was produced more than once, under different brands, originally under the  "Lesney" from England, as well as from Matchbox.

On the car bottom info it shows TM GM, for the year and car brand and model name.

Made in Thailand, number MB777 as well as an elephant B37

The model may be most notable for the two dogs in the back cargo area, peering out of the open rear window.

Initially offered with Autosteer, the model was later converted to superfast wheels.


The Matchbox name started in 1953

The original brand was the British die- casting company, Lesney Products.

Jack Odell, Leslie Smith and Rodney Smith (hence the name "Lesney") were the original creators. 

They made their first million model sale with the Queen Elizabeth II's Coronation Coach.
